Why Ron Tyler?
As I began considering this campaign, and as Cassie and I talked and prayed about this so many times over the past year, we realized that we believe strongly this election is about our Homes, our Families, our Businesses, and our Futures. And it always came down to three questions: Why Now? Why Mayor? Why Ron Tyler?
Those are not only questions I asked myself but questions every Florence voter has a right to ask: Why Now? Why Mayor? Why Ron Tyler?
Why Ron Tyler?

Florence will elect a Mayor in August this year, with the opportunity to lead our community during the next four, eight, twelve, or even sixteen years. Consequently, this election is critical. 2025 is the right time for me, the right timing for my family, and the right timing for this community to choose a fresh perspective, a vision forward, and for someone who can make necessary decisions that reflect our community’s best interests. I am ready to move Florence forward and am excited about working with others throughout our community to make this happen.
The position of Mayor offers the opportunity to influence our community for generational good. An effective Mayor can significantly impact our future welfare and prosperity. The vision cannot be short-term. Mayors affecting generational change must have a long-term view and a long-range plan. I envision Florence being the place our families choose to live, work, thrive, and play for generations to come. I will work with community stakeholders, business and educational leaders, local legislative delegations, and city department heads to create an environment in Florence that facilitates long-term, generational success and prosperity for our area. I proudly stand on my record and reputation as Florence Chief of Police to demonstrate my ability to get the job done. As Mayor, I will work to keep Florence the place we all love to call “home”.
My family has been in Florence and Lauderdale County for 200 years, initially settling here in 1824. Florence is our home. I want Florence to be home for my children and their children, as the case has been for the past two centuries. The saying goes, “Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior.” Consequently, I stand on my record of service to this community over the last 29 years – including 12 years as chief of police. During that time, I demonstrated the ability to lead an organization of 150 employees, work with stakeholders to solve complex issues, direct a leadership team through change and crisis, manage a combined budget of more than 120 million dollars, and regularly make difficult decisions.
This election will determine who will represent our families, homes, businesses, and futures over the next four, eight, twelve, or even sixteen years. It is essential to my family and me, just as it is for you and yours that we have a capable, proven, and professional leader to represent us. As Mayor, I will ensure that Florence is the community where all our families can choose to live, work, thrive and play for generations to come.
My Common-Sense Approach to Effective Government
Good governance requires a dynamic process, not just a static plan. My approach, represented in the “Cycle of Progress,” involves: assessing our performance on various issues, evaluating our effectiveness, consulting experts for alternative solutions, implementing revised plans, and measuring their impact. This cycle continues to refine our efforts to meet community expectations. As I often said at the police department, “Excellence is always pursued but never achieved.” As mayor, I will continuously strive for improvement.
